This marking is recognized as a mark of a U.N. Certified
Container.
According to the U.S. Department of
Transportation Title 49CFR, Section 178.2, it requires that
manufacturers of U.N. approved packages notify their
customers regarding all requirements that the package must
go through to make certain it meets U.N. approval.
Specifically, the following items maintain
this notification:
1. Life Latch (R)
containers are certified for U.N. package performance
oriented packaging and is marked with the appropriate U.N.
markings on the bottom of the container.
2. The Life Latch (R)
pail must always be used with the Life
Latch (R) lid to meet U.N. approval.
3. Closing Instructions
A. For Original Style non-gasketed cover:
To close the container, seat cover on top of container.
Screw cover on tightly to ensure threaded contact is a full 180 degree turn.
B. For Original Style
gasketed cover: To close the container,
seat cover on top of container. Screw cover on tightly
to ensure threaded contact is a minimum of 90 degrees.
C. For New Generation non-gasketed cover:
To close, seat cover on top of container. The small window
by the trigger must pass the UN mark on the side of the
container. Screw cover on tightly to ensure threaded contact
is a minimum of 180 degrees.
D. For New Generation gasketed cover:
To close, seat cover on top of container. The small
window by the trigger must pass the UN mark on the side of
the container. Screw cover on tightly to ensure threaded
contact is a minimum of 90 degrees.
E. For 5.0 Gallon Liquid Pail/Cover:
Turn cover a complete 360 degrees with the threads
fully engaged. For ease of application, use built-in hand
lever on cover.
4. Appropriate markings must be maintained
so that the product filled inside the
Life Latch pail matches the intended hazardous
commodity ranking which U.N. certifies for that package.
